Turku University of Applied Sciences is looking for a Project Manager / Senior Expert to join the Cognitive Technologies research group and work in the international Horizon Europe project Sensor4Food coordinated by the research group.

Sensor4Food is an ambitious European research and innovation project focused on developing and validating advanced sensor technologies, multimodal data collection, and AI-based analytical methods to improve quality, safety, traceability, and process control across the food value chain.

JOB DESCRIPTION

In this role, you will act as Project Manager / Senior Expert in the Sensor4Food project and contribute to project coordination, technical progress, partner collaboration, reporting, and the achievement of the project’s scientific objectives.
The position combines operational coordination of an international research project with technical understanding and scientific expertise. The role requires the ability to understand and connect photonics and/or advanced sensor technologies, AI, data analytics, software development, and validation environments in the food value chain.
You will contribute to ensuring that technical development, validation activities, documentation, and reporting progress according to the project plan and Horizon Europe requirements. You will also participate in the preparation of scientific publications, dissemination of project results, and identification of new research opportunities based on Sensor4Food.

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU

We expect you to have:
- a relevant doctoral degree or equivalent strong research competence in a field relevant to the project
- expertise in photonics technologies, advanced sensor technologies, measurement systems, AI, data analytics and/or software development
- experience in implementing, coordinating, or working in a key expert role in large national or international research and development projects
- the ability to understand multidisciplinary technical systems involving sensors, data streams, AI methods, software, validation, and industrial application contexts
- readiness to work with an international consortium and support technical partners in project implementation
- experience in scientific writing, research documentation, and reporting
- excellent spoken and written English skills.

ADDITIONAL MERITS

- experience in EU-funded projects, especially Horizon Europe projects
- experience in food technology, sensor technology, photonics, AI, or data-intensive research environments
- the ability to act as a bridge between different fields: sensor technologies, AI, food technology, data management, validation, and research communication
- an independent, responsible, and solution-oriented working style
- strong organizational skills, prioritization skills, and the ability to move complex tasks forward
- good collaboration and communication skills in an international project environment
- Finnish language skills.

WHAT WE OFFER

OTHER INFORMATION

In this position, work takes place in Finland.

The position is fixed-term and linked to the duration of the Sensor4Food project. The employment begins on 1 September 2026, or as agreed, and ends on 28 February 2030. The position includes a six-month probationary period.

The salary will be determined according to the level of the position and the selected candidate’s competence, in accordance with the Sivista AMKTES collective agreement and the Turku UAS salary system.
