    We are seeking a junior-level software developer to join our research and development projects as a Project Engineer within the Cognitive Technologies research group at Turku University of Applied Sciences.

    Your role will focus on hands-on software development and the implementation of AI solutions in industrial and multidisciplinary RDI projects. In this role, you will

    - contribute to the development of Python-based software and AI solutions
    - build and integrate data and AI pipelines (e.g., preprocessing, model execution, output generation)
    - integrate locally deployable AI models (e.g., computer vision, text, multimodal applications) into functional systems
    - develop backend systems, interfaces, and API solutions
    - work closely with researchers, industry partners, and student assistants.

    WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU

    - A relevant higher education degree (e.g., computer science, software engineering), or graduation in the near future
    - Strong Python programming skills
    - Basic knowledge of SQL databases, Git version control, and Linux environments
    - Fluent English; Finnish language skills are considered an advantage
    - A practical hands-on mindset and willingness to learn
    - Ability to work collaboratively in a team and develop solutions together with others.

    In addition, we value

    - Experience with AI libraries and frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, Transformers, scikit-learn)
    - Backend experience (e.g., FastAPI, Airflow, Redis)
    - Experience in data processing (e.g., pandas, PostgreSQL, Parquet, Apache Iceberg)
    - Basic knowledge of Docker and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure)
    - Interest in multimodal data processing (image, video, speech, audio, IoT, sensor and time-series data)
    - Experience with AI-assisted development tools.

    OTHER INFORMATION

    The position is fixed-term (1 April 2026-31 March 2028) and includes a six-month probation period.
    The salary will be determined according to the demand level of the position and the applicant’s qualifications, in accordance with the Sivista AMKTES collective agreement for universities of applied sciences and Turku UAS salary system.
