We are currently seeking a highly qualified Research Engineer to join the Computational Engineering and Analysis Research Group (COMEA) at Turku University of Applied Sciences.

The position focuses on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), surrogate modelling, and reduced-order modelling (ROM) for thermal energy systems.

As a Research Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and executing steady-state CFD simulations (OpenFOAM) for thermal storage systems and related components. You will generate steady-state surrogate models based on CFD and FEA data to support design optimisation and develop reduced-order dynamic models using methods such as Dynamic Mode Decomposition with control (DMDc). You will also assist in the development of predictive control approaches based on reduced-order models, and contribute to workflow automation, data processing, model validation, and scientific publications.

The work in this role is technical and hands-on. You will collaborate closely with researchers and Finnish SME partners. You will also be expected to contribute to other COMEA projects as required.

WHAT DO WE EXPECT FROM YOU?

    - At least M.Sc. degree in a relevant field of engineering, applied mathematics, or a closely related field
    - Strong background in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and numerical methods
    - Practical experience in CFD; experience with OpenFOAM is considered a strong advantage
    - Ability to implement numerical workflows in Python or Matlab
    - Understanding of surrogate modelling or reduced order modelling (e.g. DMD, POD) is an advantage
    - Ability to learn new methods quickly and adapt to changing project needs
    - Good command of English language (written and spoken) is required; Finnish language skills are considered an advantage.

In addition, technical competency in CFD and heat transfer problems as well as experience in practical engineering design are appreciated.

    WHAT DO WE OFFER?

    - A versatile job where you can participate in impactful and broad RDI activities in the world-class research team of computational engineering experts
    - Freedom and flexibility in managing work tasks, as well as opportunities to develop yourself through research and development projects and stakeholder collaboration
    - The support of a multidisciplinary expert organization, diverse support for your work, and support from experienced colleagues
    - A skilled and pleasant work community
    - Modern working and laboratory environments on the Kupittaa campus, Turku, Southwest Finland
    - For candidates considering a Ph.D., this position offers a strong technical foundation, and a realistic path to doctoral studies in partnering universities in Finland.
