The Oulu Sinfonia invites applications for the temporary position of SUB-PRINCIPAL CLARINET. The position also includes an obligation to play E♭ clarinet.

Oulu Sinfonia is composed of 61 musicians and is the northernmost symphony orchestra in Finland. The Oulu Sinfonia performs traditional symphony concerts, as well as a wide range of musical genres. Madetoja Hall at the Oulu Music Center has 816 seats.

The task is to act as sub-principal clarinet in the symphony orchestra. The sub-principal clarinet is expected to maintain his/her playing skills and carry out all other tasks within the area of responsibility.

The position requires excellent playing skills and good social interaction skills.

Bonuses for previous work experience shall be added to the pay in accordance with the Collective Agreement along with compensations for costume and musical instrument. In addition, locally agreed media and media usage compensation will be paid.

The application must include an audition video. The video may be published on a video platform (e.g. YouTube or Vimeo) or on a social media platform (e.g. LinkedIn or Facebook). The video may be public or unlisted, meaning it can be viewed via a link only. The video link must be added to the application form in the field “Profile / portfolio / video URL”. The audition video must be submitted by Monday, May 4, 2026 at 3:00 PM (Finnish time).

Audition repertoire:
1st video:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Clarinet Concerto in A major, K. 622 with pianist (exposition, bars 53-154). If you already have this performance on video, it can be no older than one year old.

2nd video:
Orchestral excerpts, of which three are performed on A clarinet, one on B♭ clarinet, and three on E♭ clarinet. One excerpt is contemporary. The excerpts are performed in the order given in the PDF file, without cuts or any video or audio editing between the excerpts.

If the selection of the sub-principal cannot be made based solely on the video audition, the candidates who advance from the preliminary round will be invited to an additional live audition.
