LECTURER IN INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

The contract of employment is permanent as of 1st August 2024.

We are seeking a dedicated Lecturer to join our dynamic team in the Bachelor of Engineering program, specializing in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This role is ideal for someone passionate about shaping future engineers and advancing the field through applied research and development.

Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching: Deliver engaging and comprehensive lectures in ICT with a focus on practical applications and current industry practices. Areas covered include but are not limited to Data Engineering and DataOps.
- Student Guidance: Actively supervise and mentor students in their academic projects, theses, and internships, fostering a supportive and productive learning environment.
- Research and Development: Engage in cutting-edge research within your area of expertise, contributing to the department’s goals and expanding the frontiers of ICT. Collaborate on interdisciplinary projects to apply ICT solutions to real-world problems.
- Community Contribution: Participate in departmental activities, curriculum development, and initiatives aimed at enriching the academic community.

Essential competence:
- Proven expertise in Data Engineering and DataOps
- Expertise in Data analytics
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams
- Proficiency in English both oral and written CEFR-level C1 (Advanced) for effective teaching and communication
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Finnish both oral and written CEFR-level B1 (Intermediate)

In addition to essential competence, applicant should have an expertise in at least one of the following areas:
- Machine Learning, Data Mining, and Artificial Intelligence
- Information Security
- Computer Networks
- Internet of Things (IoT) and IoT Programming
- API Programming
- Intelligent Automation Systems
- Business Process Management and Workflow Automation

The successful performance of the position will primarily require working on Karelia's campuses in Joensuu.

Applicants are required to have an appropriate Master of Science in Technology degree in an information and communication technology or a computing discipline, and minimum three years professional experience in the field. Experience in teaching is considered an advantage.

The eligibility requirements for the position are in accordance with the Decree on University of Applied Sciences (A1129/18.12.2014). In addition, pedagogical studies of at least 35 credits or 60 ECTS credits, which may also be completed within three years of the start of the employment, are required. The terms and conditions for the employment and the salary are determined in accordance with the Sivista general collective agreement for UAS. The salary is 4487,98-6146,83 EUR per month, including experience supplement. A six-month probationary period is applied to all new members of the staff.

A UAS teacher has 12 weeks of holiday period, 8 weeks of which are in the summer. As a teacher, you can choose when and where you work for at least 28% of your working time. Teachers work 1600 hours per academic year.
